NEW Sociology Courses at AVS

Do your want to know more about human behaviour? Why society is the way it is?

Abbotsford Virtual School is now offering Sociology 11 and Sociology 12. We are the only high school offering this course in Abbotsford and the only online school offering it in the province. Below is a summary of these brand new courses.

Sociology 11 provides students with an understanding of human behavior within the context of modern concepts in sociology. This course will explore culture, group behavior, and societal institutions with regards to their impact on human interactions. The concepts will focus on socialization, social structure, deviance, crime, social stratification, class, gender, race, and inequalities relating to race, class, and gender.

Sociology 12 provides students with a more in-depth understanding of human behavior within the context of modern concepts in sociology. Using sociological perspectives, this course will explore marriage, family, religion, education, economics, politics, sports, entertainment, population, environment, cities, urban life, collective behavior, social movements, and social change. It is highly recommended that students have completed Sociology 11 before completing Sociology 12.
