Indigenous Support - Community Engagement Worker

Abbotsford Virtual School is extremely fortunate to have Corrie Mckenzie as our Indigenous Support and Community Engagement Worker. Her role at AVS is to provide support for Indigenous students and their families. For in-school support, Corrie offers mentoring and in-class student support. She also provides one-on-one and small group pullout for cultural teachings and activities such as weaving, beading, and making rattles.

Corrie also provides supports for at-home students, such as being a liaison for families and the school. She informs families of events and programs that are happening at the Indigenous Education Centre, as well as providing families with resources and connections with community organizations. She also touches base with families to see how students are doing and can do monthly check-ins. If parents or guardians have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Corrie by contacting her at Corrie.Mckenzie@abbyschools.ca and/or 604-859-1224.
