What's the difference between...

Abbotsford Virtual School offers Blended Learning Programs for fully enrolled student in grades K-12. Options include fully offsite/at home programs, or  Blended Learning programs that combine offsite/at home days days with teacher led full school days here at AVS. 

While a student can be registered at AVS in one of our fully enrolled Blended Learning Programs OR as a registered homeschooler, there are significant differences between the two. 

Blended Learning Programs at AVS:

• Blended Learning programs (Fusion/Distance/Wednesday Program) are  accredited, public school program's and follow BC curriculum for the students grade level. Curriculum, teacher support and regular report cards are provided. Student can graduate from AVS with a regular Dogwood Diploma. Parental support and involvement is still critical for students to be successful, particularly for the younger grades. 
• Students in Grades K-9 who are enrolled in a Blended Learning program at AVS cannot be attending another school at the same time. Students in grade 10-12 can either be fully enrolled with AVS or be cross enrolled to AVS while attending another school. 
• Grade K-5 Blended Learning programs are mostly paper based. Grade 6-12 courses are in an online format. 

Registered Homeschooling:

• A registered homeschooling educational program is entirely the responsibility of the parents or guardians to create, develop and deliver to their child, and curriculum and teacher support are not provided.
•  Homeschooled children do not receive a British Columbia Dogwood graduation certificate. Please see https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/classroom-alternatives/homeschooling if you would like more information.
• Students can register as homeschoolers at any public school within the district that they reside in, that corresponds with the child's age/grade level. This can be done through AVS, but it is recommended to register your child as a homeschooler at your catchment school for the districts planning purposes. They can then forecast how many students are living within an area that may at some point want to return to their catchment school.
