Adult Learners
Adults Working Towards Graduation
- Please Note: The Adult Graduation Program is not available year round/continuously.
- Registration is open for non-graduated adult students from approximately August 4- to mid-April.
- The earliest possible start date is (approximately) the end of September/early October and the latest start date possible is the end of April.
Specific questions regarding courses that you will need to meet your graduation requirements can only be answered by the Counsellor after registration. Please put a note on your registration that you like the counsellor to contact you directly. The counselling department can be very busy at peak times, and registered students are given priority in regard to responding to enquiries. All registrations for adults working towards graduation are reviewed by the counselor before students are placed in courses to ensure that graduation requirements are being met.
Canadian citizens and Permanent residents can take courses that are part of their Grad Plan for FREE with Abbotsford Virtual School. Courses are teacher supported, and self-paced. It is not required to be online at any specific time to work on your courses.
Please see detailed information below regarding options. You can register at this link: Online Registration Form
Adult Graduation Plan
The Adult Graduation program requires 20 credits towards graduation. To be eligible for the Adult Graduation, the student must be at least 18 years of age and must take at least three of the courses leading towards graduation as an adult.
- English Studies 12
- A Mathematics 11 or 12 course (could include Accounting 11)
- Three courses from a list that includes all Ministry-authorized grade 12 courses and Social Studies 11
The Adult Graduation program is free and is outlined at the following Ministry of Education website: B.C. Adult Graduation Diploma Program.
Adult (Dogwood Grad Plan)
Adult-not graduated and completing Dogwood grad plan (20 courses in total - grades 10-12)
BC Dogwood Diploma Information (80 credits/20 courses)
Adults who have previously earned most of the 80 credits required for a regular BC Graduation Diploma can still choose to complete the requirements and graduate with the standard BC Dogwood Diploma instead of an Adult Diploma. Any applicable credits that they earned previously in grade 10, 11 or 12 courses would still be valid.
*Please note that students can apply to most colleges and universities in BC with an Adult Dogwood Diploma, but it is not equivalent to the regular BC Dogwood Diploma in all situations. Students applying to post-secondary schools may be required to complete assessments or additional secondary courses to meet their entrance requirements and specific programs may also have additional requirements. Students should contact the Admissions office or check the website of the school or program that they are interested in to confirm the entrance requirements. AVS cannot advise students on the entrance requirements for post-secondary programs.
